TPC EDITORIAL COLLECTIVE
Jason Miller, Senior Editor and Founder of TPC, is a tenacious forty something vegan straight edge activist who lives in Kansas and who has a boundless passion for animal liberation and anti-capitalism. Addicted to reading and learning, he is mostly an autodidact, but he studied liberal arts and philosophy at the University of Missouri Kansas City. In early 2005, he founded the radical blog Thomas Paine’s Corner. An accomplished and prolific essayist on social and political issues, his writings have appeared on hundreds of alternative media websites over the last few years. He is also a press officer for the North American Animal Liberation Press Office and the founder of Bite Club of KC, a grassroots animal rights activist group. Dr. Steve Best is TPC’s Senior Editor of Total Liberation. Associate professor of philosophy at UTEP, award-winning writer, noted speaker, public intellectual, and seasoned activist, Steven Best engages the issues of the day such as animal rights, ecological crisis, biotechnology, liberation politics, terrorism, mass media, globalization, and capitalist domination. Best has published 10 books, over 100 articles and reviews, spoken in over a dozen countries, interviewed with media throughout the world, appeared in numerous documentaries, and was voted by VegNews as one of the nations “25 Most Fascinating Vegetarians.” He has come under fire for his uncompromising advocacy of “total liberation” (humans, animals, and the earth) and has been banned from the UK for the power of his thoughts. From the US to Norway, from Sweden to France, from Germany to South Africa, Best shows what philosophy means in a world in crisis.
Jerry Vlasak, MD is a board-certified surgeon specializing in trauma and critical care, TPC’s Senior Editor of Animal Liberation, and a press officer for the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. He is a former vivisector who has seen the agony of animals in laboratories. He debates the scientific invalidity of animal experimentation around the world, speaks out about the benefits of a vegan diet and offers lectures on the right of all sentient beings to live free of pain and suffering. His essays and interviews have been published in numerous journals and magazines and he has been interviewed on radio, TV and in print by journalists worldwide regarding animal rights. Anthony Marr, TPC’s Senior Editor of Ecological Crisis and Wildlife Defense, has a degree in physics, and has worked as a field geophysicist and an environmental technologist; was born in China, lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and travels world-wide 6 months every year; has been to Africa to observe the wildlife situation first hand (~1980): has performed undercover operations and media campaigns in all the major Chinatowns of North America, to rid them of endangered species products (1995 onward); led the “highest profile Canadian wildlife campaign in 1996″ regarding trophy hunting of Grizzly bears in British Columbia; has led three deep-rural-India expeditions to help save the subcontinent’s wildlife habitat and ecosystems, resulting in being honored as the “Champion of the Bengal Tiger” in the award-winning TV documentary series Champions of the Wild aired in 20 countries worldwide (1997-1999); has conducted two overt/covert missions in Japan against whaling and the dolphin capture and slaughter (2004 & 2005); has since 2003 completed 6 Compassion for Animals Road Expeditions (CARE tours) throughout the United States and Canada, the first of which (CARE-1) covering 40 states and 4 provinces in 7.5 months (2003-2009); has been a speaker at the National Animal Rights Conference since 2004 (see www.ARConference.org), giving up to a dozen different speeches per year-conference (2004-2009); has appeared on television, radio, newspapers and magazines hundreds of times (1995 – 2009); is the founder of Heal Our Planet Earth (HOPE – 1999); is the author of the book OMNI-SCIENCE and the Human Destiny (2003); and is the author of the book Homo Sapiens! Peter Young is TPC’s Senior Editor of Direct Action and the creator of VoiceOfTheVoiceless.org. Young is a veteran animal liberation activist and former political prisoner convicted for his role in liberating thousands of animals from fur farms across the country. Emerging from a grand jury indictment, 7 years of being wanted by the FBI, a federal prison sentence, and nearly 15 years in the animal liberation movement; today Peter is a frequent lecturer at universities and events, writer on liberation movements, and unapologetic supporter of those who work outside the law to achieve human, earth, and animal liberation.
Gary Yourofsky, TPC’s Senior Editor of Radical Vegan Outreach, is one of the most powerful orators in the animal rights movement. As of September 2009 he has given 1,750 lectures to more than 40,000 students in 143 middle schools, high schools and universities nationwide. Gary uses thought-provoking prose, inspiring stories, indisputable facts, quotes from Pythagoras, William Ralph Inge and other great thinkers, plus graphic footage from slaughterhouses (land and sea), to ask people to be kind to animals and, ultimately, go vegan. Sylvain Lamoureux is TPC’s Assistant Editor and IT director. Based in Montreal, he is a self-educated writer/activist who speaks English, French and some Spanish. He has lived in Mexico and volunteered in Africa for two years. He maintains two sites of his own, Things I Read Today and My Mind and the World.
Loki Ryan is TPC’s Assistant Editor. He has a strong background in technology and is an aspiring artist.
Vi Ransel, TPC’s Senior Editor of Anti-Capitalism, is a researcher and poet of exceptional caliber. Very little is known about her.
Alison Banville, TPC’s UK Editor of Total Liberation, is a long-term campaigner on rights for human and nonhuman animals, the environment, and political issues. She is committed to showing how they are all interconnected. Alison is also a singer, lyricist, and teacher, and she has a keen interest in vegan health and fitness.
Camille Marino, TPC’s Editor of Vegan Agitation, is an animal liberationist, an extraordinary agitator and activist, and is the founder and editor of Negotiation is Over. In her words, “It’s time to stop waving signs at cars or trying to enlighten the apathetic. The fight for the rights of non-human people is urgent and requires us to act outside the box.”
Kostas Alexiou, TPC’s European Editor of Total Liberation, is based in Athens. He is opposed to any kind of authority and oppression. He supports direct action on behalf of both nonhuman and human animals and radical approaches in general. He is a student of Forestry and Natural Environment Management. He blogs in Greek at Antispeciesist Action and is committed to integrating all liberation struggles.
Frank Joseph Smecker, TPC’s Editor of Radical Earth Defense, is a social-worker and writer from Vermont who has an ardent and committed passion to work in defense of everything wild. Mostly an autodidact, he is also currently in school matriculating toward a degree in psychology. He is an accomplished writer; his essays, interviews and articles, decrying the atrocities of industrial civilization and capitalism, have appeared in many publications. He is also a blog writer for the Vermont Commons Journal (for Independence from Empire).
